15 Years of Geocaching

18th June 2015 by MarcusMaximi

If you found a geocache on May 2nd this year you would have earned a souvenir to celebrate 15 years of geocaching and to unlock your challenge for this summer. The souvenir text read as follows …

Thanks for celebrating 15 Years of Geocaching with us! On May 2, 2000, the United States government disabled selective availability—increasing the accuracy of civilian GPS devices. The very next day, May 3, the first geocache was hidden. Now it’s time to discover your Geocaching Road Trip ’15 mission. Between June 19 and September 2, find five souvenirs to unlock a special sixth souvenir. Check out the Geocaching Blog for details: http://www.geocaching.com/blog/

Over the next few months, we’ll all be going on a geocaching journey to celebrate 15 years of geocaching. You’ll have the opportunity to complete five geocaching quests, each of which will earn you a special souvenir for your geocaching profile. Complete all five and you’ll earn a sixth, extra special souvenir.
After each quest begins, you’ll be able to complete it and earn your souvenir until September 2, 2015. So pack your bag, load up on snacks and set your road trip playlist, because here are your quests and their start dates:

  • June 19 – Sept 2Find a geocache with 10 or more Favorite Points
  • July 3 – Sept 2Attend an Event, Mega-Event or Giga-Event
  • July 17 – Sept 2Find a T5 or D5 geocache
  • July 31 – Sept 2Find an EarthCache or attend a CITO
  • August 14 – Sept 2Find a Mystery Cache

Well, tomorrow is the first active day of the challenge.

Luckily poshrule keeps revamping his caches, so the nearest to me is Church Micro 5619… Woodwalton at a mere 4 miles away and 19 favourite points 🙂

Again, poshrule always has an event in July, so that one is ticked off with Yaxley Summer Soirée on 18th July.

Then for the D5/T5 there is the D5 It’s All About The Cache Owner Challenge Cache which is Ross’ cache so I can log it. All the T5s for miles around are Boat Onlys!!! Shame poshrule doesn’t have any nearby!

Then for stage 4 I have a short lunchtime trip out for tele’s Litlington Clunch Pit which I had saved for just such a purpose 🙂

Finally, I could wait until after August 14 to find stage 3 as that is also a Mystery cache but I’ve decided to grab Mick’s A double 366 Challenge to complete that stage.

So, what is everyone else going to do? Well I can easily set up 4 of the stages for another event in August in Alconbury, I’m just struggling on the Earthcache/CITO challenge. Keep your eyes peeled!
